Mr Borthakur has been working in the field of ecological and population genetic research on several threatened mammal and bird species  in India and abroad for last 20 years. He is the founder head of Wildlife Genetics Division and Media Production and Communications Division of Aaranyak. Apart from leading these two divisions, currently he is holding the position of the Organising Secretary in the organisation. As a principal investigator and project leader, he has implemented several significant projects  at Aaranyak. He is a member of IUCN SSC Asian Rhino Specialist Group and Heron Specialist Group as well as has served as a member of several government committees. Mr. Borthakur is an award winning wildlife photographer and filmmaker and official wildlife photography mentor for Nikon School India.
