The floods in Eastern Assam have left behind more than waterlogged homes and damaged belongings – they have disrupted livelihoods, threatened health and safety and placed vulnerable families under immense pressure to rebuild their lives.
For many communities across Jorhat, Sivasagar and Charaideo, recovery will not end when the waters recede. Families need sustained support to restore dignity, health, security and the foundations of everyday life.
Aaranyak on the Ground
In response to this humanitarian crisis, Aaranyak’s members and staff came together through voluntary contributions to initiate flood relief efforts across affected communities. As part of the first phase, our team visited Dorikamari village in Jorhat district, where we met affected families, listened to their experiences and assessed their immediate needs. Relief kits containing essential hygiene and safety supplies were subsequently provided to 70 households.
This first response is rooted in a simple principle: support must reach people with dignity, sensitivity and accountability.
Now, we need partners to go further
Aaranyak is preparing to extend its response to more flood-affected families across the landscapes of Eastern Assam.
Our approach is designed to respond to locally identified needs, while combining immediate humanitarian assistance with interventions that can help communities move towards recovery and resilience.
