Vacancy for Biologist Position in Aaranyak

Designation: Biologist, Wildlife Genetics Division

Number of Position: One

Location: Guwahati

Job Responsibilities:

  • To assess current population and conservation status of target avian species in various places of Assam.
  • To undertake field survey for detecting nesting and roosting sites for target avian species in Assam.
  • To assist senior Scientist at Aaranyak in developing Species Distribution Models for target avian species.
  • To coordinate amongst various conservation stakeholders and assist in development of species management plan for target avian species in Assam.

Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in relevant disciplines of biological sciences including Zoology, Botany, Wildlife Sciences etc.

Desired Experience:

  • Experience on various methods on bird monitoring and good knowledge on birds of Northeast India with identification skills.
  • Qualitative and quantitative analytical skills.
  • Experience of fieldwork in Assam and ability to work in difficult physical conditions.
  • Experience of teamwork and good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to drive two-wheeler and four-wheeler vehicles and holds a valid driving license.

Preferred age group: Below 35 years

Honorarium: Negotiable with working knowledge, experience, and qualification.

Type of contract: Annual (Initial term is for one year with possibility of long-term engagement based on the annual performance appraisal).

A. Name of the position: Assistant Manager
Number of position: 01
Location: Kohora, Golaghat, Assam
Detailed Roles and Responsibilities:
a. Support Management by coordinating with the team members for planning, monitoring and execution of different project activities.
b. Design strategies for effective monitoring of the project activities, performances indices and monitor that all activities are being executed on time.
c. Ensure daily briefing and debriefing for teams to understand commitments of deliverables, constraints faced and record best practices.
d. Plan and ensure timely collection of data from interventional activities of projects, its management and present results to the team at regular intervals.
e. Lead in preparing project activity reports and PR reports as required.
f. Analyse data, interpret and contribute to preparation of high-quality reports as required to meet project reporting requirements.
g. Develop stakeholders contacts as may be required for project operations and management.

Essential Qualification: Master in Social Work/agriculture/forestry/Zoology/ Wildlife Science/Life Science or any other relevant field.

Desirable Experience:
● 2-3 years of experience in management of conservation projects;
● Experience of working with Indigenous communities.
● Ability to work independently, very good communication skills and problem-solving abilities.
● Ability to work and manage a dynamic team of 10 with ethnic and linguistic diversity.
Project duration: Two (02) years with possibilities of extending in future.

Emolument: Commensurate to qualification and experiences.

B. Name of the position: Project Officer

Location: Kohora, Golaghat, Assam

Detailed Roles and Responsibilities:
a. Work as single point contact for planning and execution of sustainable Livelihoods in Karbi Anglong District.
b. Implement Community-Based NRM activities with a team of 4-5 and monitor their day to day work activities and reports.
c. Carry out outreach activities among the communities and lead the preparation of relevant outreach materials.
d. Maintain Public Relation with local communities and community leaders.
e. Maintain a database and prepare documents and reports as required, ensuring day to day data collection.
f. Develop stakeholders contacts as may be required for project operations and management.

Essential Qualification: Master in Social Work/Humanity/Zoology/ Wildlife Science/Life Science or any other relevant field. Must be inclined to work for indigenous communities, learn about their issues and work together to resolve the same.

Desirable Experience:
● Having 1-2 years of experience in working with indigenous communities in NE will be preferable.
● Good vocabulary and written proficiency in Assamese/Karbi
● Good communication skills and problem-solving abilities.
Project duration: Two (02) years with possibilities of extending in future.
